Beekeeping

Beekeeping and apiary services including hive management, education programs, honey extraction, and hive adoption. Beekeeping is tough business, and we are here to help.

Why have beekeeping costs increased? Several factors have driven up costs in recent years:

Sugar Substitutes — Industrial use of corn syrup, sugar substitutes and cheap sugar sources has kept the price of honey relatively low over the years due to low industrial demand. Recent changes in how the US perceives food has helped increase retail demand, influencing companies to purchase honey instead of substitutes.

Economic Dumping — Foreign countries with the intent of crashing the honey industry sold honey to US markets under the cost of production. This forced many beekeepers out of the industry. To this day, less than scrupulous countries blend honey and ship it to be sold in US markets undetected. Always buy your honey RAW and LOCAL from known apiaries and beekeepers.

Parasites and Diseases — The introduction of new parasitic insects such as the small hive beetle, tracheal mites, and varroa mites have caused a decline in bee populations. On a positive note, the industry is adapting with new hygienic modified bees that are resistant to mites and beetles.

Insecticides — Although unproven by many US researchers, the EU has found that many new insecticides directly affect bee populations including clothianidin, neonicotinoids, and imidacloprid.

Honey Bee Rescue manages over 150 hives with plans for expansion to 400. Our apiaries span from rural South Texas to the outskirts of North Texas. We partner with Real Honey LLC (realhoney.net) to produce and sell local raw Texas honey.

Do not pay would-be exterminators posing as beekeepers. Our beekeepers are certified, licensed, and passionate about saving bees. TDA License #083303, regulated by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Our Process

Our experienced beekeepers manage all aspects of hive care including regular inspections, disease prevention, seasonal management, and honey harvesting using sustainable practices.

Each bee catcher must work in our bee yard / apiary with our master beekeepers to learn proper honeybee rescue and bee hive inspection before performing any bee control work. We maintain multiple apiary locations across Texas with over 300 beehives, all made entirely of honeybees rescued from live bee removals.
